References
This is a very new website, so I am still in the process of asking for references from women and
couples who have already had Doula support from me.
I will include them as soon as I receive them.
General references
"Jill was inspirational, tactful, creative, encouraging, practical and always 100% supportive.
"
"Jill's confidence, knowledge and encouragement inspired me to have confidence in myself, and to
make knowledgeable choices about my own birth. With her help, I went into labor feeling like it was
the most natural thing in the world for a woman to do (which of course it is) - and gave birth at home to
a 10 lb 4 oz baby. She has assisted me and supported me through two pregnancies now, and I would
recommend her to anyone, especially first time mothers."
"I have known Jill as a friend for approximately 10 years and have always been impressed by
her commitment to enabling and supporting women to make active choices and take control of their own
lives."
"Jill offered me invaluable emotional, moral and practical support during my two pregnancies,
miscarriage, labour/birth and post-natally – especially with breast-feeding."
"I am totally confident that Jill would be an excellent doula and would bring lots of empathy,
wisdom, inspiration, creativity and commitment to this role. She is also very reliable, honest
and punctual."
Ante-natal references
"During my second pregnancy, I had extensive discussions with Jill about the pros and cons of
a planned home birth and this gave me the confidence to be true to my self and choose a home
birth. (During my first pregnancy, I booked for a hospital birth – as I found it difficult to
counter my family’s anxieties and the persuasion of health professionals, who wanted me to follow
their standard advice for women aged over 35 years etc)."
"I felt supported by Jill in my decisions throughout my pregnancy and discussed many specific
issues with her e.g. my birth plan and my decision not to have ultrasound scans or other screening
tests. She helped me to think through issues without imposing her own ideas and values.
She was also respectful of my feelings and anxieties."
Birth references
"Thanks to Jill, my son's birth is something I smile about, rather than something I just survived.
Jill gave me loads of support and information in the last months of pregnancy, and helped us both prepare
for the birth. On the day, she supported me, supported my husband, negotiated with the midwife and made
sure things went the way I wanted (even when I was too busy to follow the discussion) and even spoon fed me
chocolate soya mousse!
We had a lovely, drug free home birth, and I'm pretty sure that without Jill it would have been neither
lovely nor drug free. We had a bit of a difficult start with breastfeeding, and again Jill was a total star.
she came and sat with us for a few feeds and gave us all the support and info we needed to sort out the
latch and start enjoying feeding."
"In the latter stage of my pregnancy, I was privileged to see Jill’s video of her own labour
and the birth of her first child. I found this immensely inspiring, reassuring and
demystifying."
"Jill offered to be one of my birth partners – an offer which I accepted without
hesitation! Jill was with me for at least 14 hours of my labour. Over this time, she gave
me constant encouragement, reassurance and practical support. She talked through options with me
and supported me in reaching my own decisions, gave me massage, suggested ideas for managing
labour/pain e.g. spending time in the bath and ensured that the environment was maintained as I’d
wanted it (music/candles etc)."
Post-natal references
"After my son's birth, Jill gave me ongoing support with getting breastfeeding established (I
had lots of difficulties) and put me in touch with useful resources/contacts. She also showed me
how to massage blocked ducts within my breasts."
"When I had mastitis, Jill provided massive amounts of practical support – preparing meals for
me, looking after my son so that I could have a rest/sleep etc."
