Ante-natal Support

I consider it important to spend time getting to know you, your circumstances, and what you want.  Because of this, two ante-natal visits lasting 1 or 2 hours, plus telephone and e-mail support, is already included as part of the Birth Support package.

Initial discussion

If you would like to arrange a separate package of ante-natal support, then all charges and services will be agreed upon in advance and documented in a contract.  I would encourage you to contact me as early on as possible to arrange this.  However, you can still contact me and check whether I am available at short notice.  I recognise that there are many reasons that you might find yourself in this position, and will do my best to offer whatever support is appropriate.

I usually charge £10/hour, for a minimum of 2-3 hours at a time, plus travelling costs for longer distances, depending on how close you live to me.  These visits could be to discuss your plans or feelings about birth, to accompany you to medical appointments, or to provide help with older siblings, light housework, shopping, cooking etc.

I am happy to discuss monthly payments or a reduced fee depending on your circumstances.

Please see my "Contact me" page to arrange an initial discussion.

Your Birth Plan

Helping you to discuss your feelings, and to make informed decisions, about the kind of birth you want will usually be one of the main areas of ante-natal work.  If you have not already done so, I will help you prepare a written Birth Plan and support you in agreeing it with your partner, your family and your midwife or doctor.

If you are having difficulty agreeing your birth plan, it might also be possible to register with a different midwife or doctor.  Please see my "Links" page for a list of websites about midwives.

Preparing for birth

In addition to emotional support, I will also discuss some basic issues around breathing, relaxation, movement and positioning.  There are several options for ante-natal classes if you feel that you would like to attend these.  The National Childbirth Trust offer good classes in most areas.

Equipment, products etc.

Some women like the idea of having a water birth, a birth ball, TENS machine etc.  Where possible I will help you to get access to any such equipment.  Some products may be available to hire directly from myself.
If you would like to hire these without having the Birth Support package then I will normally require a deposit.

I will help you to get access to any other equipment that you feel might help.

Please see my "Links" page for a list of websites with equipment, services, products etc.

Help with the unexpected

As part of your Birth Support package, I will remain on-call for you 24 hours per day from two weeks before your expected birth date.  Telephone and e-mail support is also included within any ante-natal or birth support package.
